GOSHEN, Ind. — One of the rising voices in the alternative country scene, Greg Freeman, has recently released the lead single to his forthcoming album All Set The Bone, “Indu,” a potent and punchy track that gets its title from the sanskrit word for “Moon.” The album, for Freeman, signifies a time of personal change and tension, which comes across loud and clear while listening.
During the chorus Freeman wails: These days come so quick // These nights go so quick now. Harbringing the pace at which life is passing Freeman by. During the process of recording All Set The Bone, Freeman threw aside the odd jobs he had been finding himself in such as cemetery landscaping and a restaurant line cook and moved into music full-time, shutting himself away in a new apartment to hone in on his now full-time job.
Freeman takes a sound familiar to any Globe listener, Indie rock, and breathes new life into it. Without being derivative or harming the view many fans of the genre have, Freeman manages to come up with something completely refreshing and original. He doesn’t try to come up with something completely new but rather is one step closer to perfecting that which has been attempted to be perfected many times before.
An audaciously catchy tune, and one that is sure to become a Globe staple, “Indu,” is just a small taste of the big things that will come if Freeman continues to show his potential in such a nostalgic yet original way.
In order to promote All Set The Bone Freeman has set off on a tour internationally and is coming to Chicago, Il on October 24 at Lincoln Hall. More information can be found online at https://greg-freeman.net/.
