GOSHEN, Ind.

Goshen IND – Last weekend, nine students at 91.1 The Globe traveled with Station Manager Jason Samuel to the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s 87th annual convention in New York City. They got the opportunity to meet and connect with other broadcasting students from across the nation, and attend numerous sessions held by industry professionals. These sessions included a keynote address by Helen Little an on air personality at Iheartmedia. The weekend culminated in an awards ceremony where Goshen College, was nominated for 15 awards, won five national honors.

“It was awesome to be named the best college radio station(under 10,000 students), I know we’ve worked hard as a team and can now see it pay off.” said Eduardo Alvarez-Barrera, A junior broadcasting major from Goshen, Indiana, and the student station manager at the globe. “I will never forget that feeling of walking up to receive this award”

Liliana Herrera, a senior broadcasting major from Santa Clarita, California and the student executive producer of Globe tv, said “to win two solo national awards is honestly the cherry on top for my career at the Globe.” She also said, “it was an amazing feeling with Jason being there. He’s pushed me these last four years and I wouldn’t be where I am today, without him.”  

Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Media Awards:

Liliana Herrera won Best Campus/Community and Best Video News Report. She was nominated for Best Newscast; Best Video Newscast (along with Eduardo Alvarez-Barrera). Herrera was also nominated for Best Video Sports Program (along with Collin Echols ‘25 from Indianapolis). Echols was also nominated for Best Political News. 

Tyson Miller ‘25 from Syracuse, Indiana, won Best Morning Show (along with Mackenzie Miller, a Junior Communications Major from Harrisonburg, Virginia, Kate Bodiker, a Senior writing and communication double major from Berlin, Ohio, and Seth Smith Kauffman ‘25 from Goshen, Indiana). Mackenzie Miller was also nominated for Best Variety program. Tyson Miller was nominated for Best Live Music Broadcast. 

Ana Alves, A Sophomore Communications major, was nominated for Best Show Promo.

Kate Bodiker (along with Joey Paternostro, a Junior broadcasting major) were nominated for Best Pre-game/Post-game Show. Bodiker was also nominated for Best Station Blog. 

Matija Margetic, a senior film production major and Gregor Rommelspacher 25’ won Best Commercial

The Globe Staff won Best College/University Station Under 10,000 Students. The Globe Staff was also nominated for Best Social Media Accounts
