GOSHEN, Ind. We’ve all been there, you want to tell somehow how you really feel but you can’t quite figure out how to do it. Have you considered singing a song? May I Suggest “In Your Ocean” by Iron & Wine. The song takes you on an emotional journey that expresses the feeling of being completely submerged by someone else.

Written by Sam Beam who has been a leading artist in the indie folk genre, singing under the name Iron & Wine. The song has a slow steady tempo, possibly an ode to the rhythmic movement of the ocean. He works in sad longing harmonies, interwoven with soft percussion. The song also ebbs and flows with crescendos and decrescendos as the song builds in and out of the verses and chorus.

Alongside the harmonies, Sam plays an acoustic guitar, which helps give the song its characteristic indie folk feel. It also sounds as if there is an electric guitar playing simple riffs and runs that bring more to the song then you may realize. With the addition of a tambourine and bass drum here and there, you get the full band sound without it being too overpowering.

Iron & Wine will be going on tour starting Feb 28th in Australia, but do not fret, Iron & Wine will come to Thalia Hall in Chicago for two nights. May 5th and May 6th, tickets are selling quickly, so get them while you can.

If you can’t make it to the show in person, Iron & Wine has a youtube presence where you can watch him work his craft as well as the music video for “In Your Ocean.” The comedic video depicts a couple attempting to open a jar of jam that was sealed a little bit too tight, watch it for a good laugh.
