GOSHEN, IN – The Globe Track of the Week is an excellent way to keep up with the new tunes presented weekly on 91.1 the Globe, the best college radio station in Indiana.

Active since 1972, Rodney Crowell has been at the center of Americana music longer than I’ve been alive, and that’s saying something, because I’m one of the oldest students on Goshen College.

Just because Rodney Crowell has been performing for over five decades doesn’t mean he has slowed down at all. If you need proof, look (or should I say listen) no further than his most recent release, Lucky. It comes off Crowell’s newest album, The Chicago Sessions, released in 2023 by New West Records.

The song is catchy and grabs you from the opening piano lick.  Moving into a blues riff, Crowell’s lyrics have an enormous amount of meaning. The song discusses how luck plays such an important role in where we end up, but also touches on how the relationships we build help create the luck we receive. The older I get the more I understand exactly what he means.

The song is masterfully played. The beat, the piano chops, the tight guitar playing, and the up-tempo bass line bring a smile to my face. This song was, of course, a part of a Rodney Crowell giveaway we had a week ago. Crowell was kind enough to send us a signed LP and CD of The Chicago Sessions. He’s still the class act he has been for over 50 years, and is a great addition to the Globe track library.
