GOSHEN, Ind.  “Inside the Lines” by Chaparelle is definitely one of a kind. From melody to singing style to the beat, I had never heard a unique mix like this. The song transmits a calming energy but still keeps me on my toes, waiting for the drums to pick up. One way I could describe it is as if joining Chappell Roan’s vocal style and Bob Marley’s instrumental inspiration in one alternative folk hit.

Chaparelle’s whispery style contributes to the “chill vibes” of the song, but in a playful way that kept me moving along with the melody the whole time. The vocal harmony and balance between the two performers caught my attention instantly. They match really well in tone, volume, and timber, but they especially have an inexplicable chemistry that makes the track work impressively.

The song works as a narrative, and Zella Day and Jesse Woods enact the characters in it. Normally, I do not enjoy this kind of lyricism, but this time was the exception. The back and forth of the story from the girl’s and guy’s perspective brings it to life, and I saw myself deeply engaged and curious about what would happen next between those two.

Overall, “Inside the Lines” was a great way to get introduced to Chaparelle, and will for sure keep me in the loop for their work. The free-spirited approach put a smile on my face, and I can see it as a perfect song for a stroll in the park to just relax and enjoy the moment.

As always, with the Globe Track of the Week, I recommend checking out the music video for this song, as it illustrates the bohemian vibe of the band. If “Inside the Lines” gave the same impression as it did to me, they have an upcoming release for their album “Western Pleasure” and will be performing in Indianapolis on June 24.
