For many years, goshen College Athletics has gone without an official mascot.
As “The Maple Leafs”, it’s difficult to put together a mascot that fits the team name. While unofficial mascots have come and gone for GC, one student has stepped up in order to make a name for themselves in Dan Eash-Scott.
Dissatisfied with the lack of mascots, Eash-Scott and a group of GC students pooled money together through Venmo, and decided to purchase a squirrel suit to fill the mascot role for a Goshen College campus that puts a high amount of value in its squirrels.
Eash-Scott attends all home indoor events for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as the men’s volleyball squad.
As the athletic season winds down for winter sports, Eash-Scott will also look to be in attendance for spring-ball, with baseball and softball contests right around the corner.
So the next time you’re at a Maple Leaf home contest, keep an eye out for Dan the Squirrel Man, and watch as he hypes up the Goshen College Leafpile.
