GOSHEN, Ind. Imagine the sound of a DIY garage band mixed with classic Americana records in the middle of a rainy afternoon. That is the exact vibe of “The Wahs,” by the rising UK group Westside Cowboy. From the first note, the track feels both like a joyful chaos of 90’s alternative rock and the heart of a country ballad.

What immediately struck me about this song is its constant energy. It’s short, punchy, and feels like it’s constantly on the verge of spinning out of control. The track captures that innocent young feeling of friends playing together in a cramped room. My favorite part has to be the driving bassline, which subtly sounds like the melodic punk-pop of Green Day’s “Warning era”. There’s also a beautiful slacker-rock vibe where the lyrics feel like a casual conversation overheard at a pub.

This track actually began as a simple Casio drum machine loop in a bedroom, and the band admits they almost overcomplicated it before stripping it back to its rawest form. It’s a testament to their philosophy: trusting their instincts and letting the music breathe. If you’re looking for a track that feels both nostalgic and brand new, “The Wahs” has to be on your list.

Westside Cowboy is currently touring their new EP, So Much Country ‘Till We Get There, so keep an eye on their socials for upcoming UK and US dates if you get obsessed with Westside Cowboy once you listen to their tracks (which will probably happen).
