GOSHEN, Ind. – Each week, a Globe-pal (AKA a DJ at 91.1 the Globe) uploads a review of a Globe track that is sent out and posted on globeradio.org/music. The Globe Track of the Week is proudly presented by 91.1 the Globe, the best college radio station in Indiana.
While listening to “Driver” by Soccer Mommy, I realized I hadn’t listened to very many of her songs, so before listening to this one, I chose to explore her other singles and albums. While listening, I realize that this song, “Driver,” captures her poignant lyrics, and colorful melody that is signature to her.
The song has a theme of introspection and longing, while reflecting on personal experiences and relationships. One of my favourite things about this song is how the music and the words combine to create an emotional atmosphere for the listener that can be relatable. “Driver” also reminded me of some other past songs of Soccer Mommy, which include “Circle the Drain” and “Your Dog”. The songs also delve into the realm of love and self-reflection themes.
I think the one thing from the song that stands out the most is how well it can resonate with some listeners. It also creates a sense of longing and nostalgia through its relatable lyrics. The bridge of the song is by far the most emotionally evoking part. It intensifies the emotion and reflects feelings of uncertainty while also capturing the struggle and feelings of wanting someone who may not reciprocate the same feelings.
This song, after listening to it, made me wish it existed many years ago when I myself was struggling in the realm of relationships, but it is definitely worth the listen no matter when you discover it.
