GOSHEN, Ind. — Ubiquitous with the music scene taking after the slacker rock greats of days past like Neil Young, Pavement, and Dinosaur Jr, “Chance to Bleed” by Kurt Vile opens with that scrappy guitar tone. Vile does more than mimic the greats, he’s created one of his own. ‘Now you got a chance to bleed now//With that old time, lofi, DIY, rock n’ roll… nights!,” he sings.
In references to the old time rock n’ roll nights, Vile invokes just that. The scraggly, dirty backtrack leans into the playful, almost spoken word quality of Vile’s voice. Described as a “new Tom Waits,” “a modern-day Robert Plant,” and “the next Neil Young,” Vile releases “Chance to Bleed,” ahead of his forthcoming album “Philadelphia’s been good to me.”
After his move to Philadelphia Vile worked for three years as a bartender and audio engineer in pursuit of a music career. His music, born from the neon glow of a dive bar sign, has grown its own legs which stomp boot-laden feet, while inviting the listener to do the same. Vile hasn’t exactly flown under the radar since his career took off in the early 2010’s. He’s won multiple Grammy’s, been nominated for several others, and garnered critical acclaim across the music industry.
Not dissimilar to the tours he wrote most of his albums between, Vile will cross the country and back, eventually reaching the world, while he will make stops in Portugal, France, Luxembourg, Norway, Denmark, UK, and more. Vile will also stop in Chicago, IL while on his tour on July 26, 2026 at The Salt Shed. “Philadelphia’s been good to me” is set to be released on May 29, 2026.
