GOSHEN, Ind. — Jason Isbell’s “Bury Me” from his album “Foxes in the Snow” is a song that I knew was an instant addition to my playlist from the second his voice came through my headphones. I enjoy a very diverse range of music from heavy metal to reggae, country music being a favorite of mine.
“Bury Me” fits the country profile to a T. It starts with a hook of Isbell’s raw voice. No music, nothing. I was trying to type this as I was listening to the song and I stopped. The unfiltered passion and soul in his voice took all of my focus off of anything else happening.
The entire song has a very classic country feel with the sounds of a classic six-string guitar carrying listeners seamlessly through the entire song. It is a very laid-back track with a theme of remembrance of good times past on the journey traveled to the present.
It drives the idea of appreciating the simple things in life. Isbell sings about seeing windmills along a highway and feeling alive. The story matches the sound of his voice: pure. No interference, just living life in the present.
This was a personal favorite new song that I have listened to over the last few weeks. Even if country music is not someone’s favorite genre, I think this is still a song that would be an easy and enjoyable listen for anyone.
