GOSHEN, Ind. — From her latest album “Trespasser”, Grace Potter’s “Main Street U.S.A” tackles the pursuit of the American dream and belonging, whilst also having a desire to escape from it all.

In the opening verse, Potter explains her plans to run away from the limelight. She sings “I’m gone, I’m gonna get myself a brand new name and put 1,000 miles between me and the mainframe.” This highlights her desire to run away and live a life without the stress of fame.

In direct contrast to this, Potter then sings, “I’ve been trying to find Main Street, U.S.A With the boys and the girls and the jukebox playing Down at the Big Top, popping off, calling my name,” in the chorus. This highlights how Potter is struggling with her desire for fame whilst also wanting to get away from it all. This is a constant struggle throughout the song for Potter.

Potter can’t get away from this constant flip-flopping throughout the song. During the quiet moments of the song, she questions “Have I been missing something? Did someone rip out the page? I swear I think I saw it, the land of milk and honey.” Then, just a few lines later she sings the opening lines of the chorus.

The end of the song, she sings “Holy moly, take me to the place where anything can happen on Main Street U.S.A, cause I ain’t found it yet, but when I do I’ll send a postcard.” This indicates to the viewer that she wants the spotlight and she is going to pursue fame.

This track is upbeat and punchy. The drums and electric guitar riffs add a flare and attitude to the song that Globe listeners will be familiar with, especially with songs like “Proxy” by St. Paul and the Broken Bones.

Potter will be going on tour with her album when she will be supporting the Zac Brown Band. She will be coming to the Midwest and to Rosemont, Illinois to the Allstate Arena. More information can be found at gracepotter.com
