GOSHEN, Ind. — With continuing heat surges throughout the Midwest over the past three weeks, many within Elkhart County have turned to cooling centers as an destination to get some respite from high temperatures.

One such cooling center is the Goshen Public Library, a space that allows people to get out of the sun and enjoy high quality air-conditioning.

Kristi Helmkamp, Community Engagement Manager at the Goshen Public Library, sees the cooling center service as a natural extension of what the library already provides; with free wifi and computers already available to the public.

Anyone who doesn’t have transportation options to reach a cooling center can call the Goshen Police Department’s non-emergency number at (574) 533-4151.

During times of extreme heat, the Goshen Salvation Army also acts as a cooling center for those in need.
