GOSHEN, Ind. — This week’s globe track of the week ‘Time’ is the title track of the album ‘Time’ by Taj Mahal and The Phantom Blues Band, set to release on May 1. The album blends blues, soul, R&B, reggae, New Orleans grooves, and Latin rhythms, and this song captures that mix smoothly. Written by Bill Withers, the track reflects a feeling of peaceful emotional healing.
When listening to ‘Time,’ the first thing I noticed was how the song feels like small constant waves. It rises and falls smoothly and when you blink there is another one coming, but it flows like a rocking chair, creating a relaxing atmosphere. I especially liked the soft presence of the bass throughout the song, which provides a steady foundation along with the drums. This contrasts nicely with the more expressive saxophone and trumpet, which stand out and adds energy. The piano is also very prominent, sometimes taking the lead with short solos and, toward the end, guiding the song alongside the backing vocals.
Vocally, Taj Mahal’s raspy voice blends perfectly with The Phantom Blues Band’s smooth harmonies. Looking at the lyrics, they are simple but meaningful. ‘Time’ focuses on the idea that when things don’t work out, time will eventually heal and bring clarity.
Overall, the song is very chill, with simple lyrics, strong vocals, and beautiful harmonies. It’s perfect for relaxing, closing your eyes, and letting the waves of instruments carry you.
