Small Business Saturday has been around since 2010 with the focus being on shopping at small local businesses. Goshen, Indiana participates in Small Business Saturday like many places around the country. Owners of small businesses are the ones who get the most out of this day. Fables Books owner, Kristen Saynor, had this to say about why Small Business Saturday is huge for them. “Small Business Saturday is all about supporting your local community rather than purchasing from either big box stores or from online. So it’s really a day for us to see how supportive activity is which for us we are you being a very relative small business. We have felt that community support for today but today is really sort of that celebration.” Found owner, Keith Graber-Miller, said this publicity it provides small stores. “Yes we support you we want to come to you to purchase our gifts for the season but he’s been grateful for the recognition of downtown businesses that are locally owned and operated Goshen has a thriving downtown. We’re really in our renaissance right now and so we’re very grateful that that gets recognized both here in Goshen and in the county and across the country. So it’s been terribly important for helping people discover us and for helping people be able to purchase.” Shoppers use the day to get out in the community and meet new people. Two shoppers, Katie and Chelsea Younghas, said this about why they participate. “So I think it’s a great way to spend time with family and friends in support. Of our neighborhood. Especially because they’re the ones that support our schools, library, all the activities that we have going on.” “I think it’s just a chance to give back and to make sure that I’m shopping within my town and making sure that businesses feel supported.” All those involved find it to be a great way to give back to the community. For owners they get shoppers in to buy what they are selling, and for shoppers they find it is a great way to get out in the community and to give back to those who they feel support them.
