GOSHEN, Ind. — While the rivalry between Goshen College and Bethel University has existed since 1959, it wasn’t made official until 2019, with the creation of the U.S. Highway 20 Cup.
In 2019, Goshen College became one of the first schools in the area to start up a men’s volleyball program.
The team has found success, and coming off back-to-back winning seasons, is looking to make a splash in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
The 2023 season will be a historic one, with Goshen facing off against Bethel for the first time in men’s volleyball, as the Pilots undergo their debut season.
So far, the Pilots have had the advantage, winning 3-2 inside Goodman Gymnasium in the first collegiate matchup between the two teams.
Both sides of the rivalry are excited that a new pair of games can be added to the point-based Highway Cup, and both are looking to gather forward momentum in their young programs.
Despite the early season loss, Goshen College still sits above Bethel in the WHAC standings, currently at 4-8 overall and 3-7 in the WHAC.
The two teams will square off again on Tuesday, March 7th, this time inside the friendly confines of Ruth-Gunden Gymnasium.
