GOSHEN, Ind. – Each week, a Globe-pal (AKA a DJ at 91.1 the Globe) takes a song of their choosing, and dishes out a healthy review to be sent out and posted on globeradio.org/music.
The Globe Track of the Week is an excellent way to keep up with the new tunes presented weekly on 91.1 the Globe, the best college radio station in Indiana.
Donato’s “Dance in The Desert” is immediately captivating, opening with an eclectic mix of acoustic and electric guitar, drums, and subtle bass. The instrumental, while simple, is not overwhelming to the listener and provides a great introduction into Donato’s world of “Cosmic Country.”
As the song progresses, Donato’s soft, but melodic voice takes over, leaving way for a subtle, but effective harmonization that bleeds throughout the track.
What strikes me about this song is how well Donato’s vocals pair with his instrumentals. Throughout the duration of the track, there is a careful blend of upbeat instrumental with calming vocals, with the instrumental fading down at just the right times to showcase Donato’s vocal abilities.
This balance, while difficult to master, seems to come naturally throughout Donato’s track.
While I can’t say that I’m entirely confident about the meaning of this track, it feels like an ode to letting go and experiencing the little joys that life has to offer. The music video for this song demonstrates just that, with colorful overlays of people dancing placed over images of the desert. It’s a video I would highly recommend viewing if you’re a first-time listener of “Dance in The Desert,” as I think it provides fun visuals to go along with a groovy track.
Donato is currently on the “Cosmic Country” tour, with events all across the United States through July 2024. Ticket and tour information can be found at danieldonato.com/tour/
