Each week, a Globe-pal (AKA a DJ at 91.1 the Globe) takes a song of their choosing, and dishes out a healthy review to be sent out and posted on globeradio.org/music.

The Globe Track of the Week is an excellent way to keep up with the new tunes presented weekly on 91.1 the Globe, the best college radio station in Indiana.

For this Globe Track of the Week Liam Morris, host of Subterranea, 91.1 The Globe’s specialty music program about alternative music, decided to focus on an alternative band that has been a staple in the alternative music scene since the early 2000s.

“Last month, alternative rock band Paramore dropped their first album since 2017, titled “This Is Why.” Its title track and lead single quickly became a staple in the Globe music catalog. At the time of the album’s release, this track was near the top of the iHeart Radio Alternative Rock charts. This song and the album as a whole tap into the band’s pop-punk roots while continuing their experimentation with new-wave influences on their previous album “After Laughter.” That shift in genre and sound has proven controversial in their fanbase, many of whom miss Paramore’s early sound. Given this and the turmoil that the band has experienced in the past several years, the fierce, rebellious lyrics of “This Is Why” make sense: Hayley Williams and company don’t care if you miss the old Paramore. They live relatively private lives as far as modern musicians go, and they’re going to keep on innovating– and they know that their true fans are right behind them.
