The Globe Track of the Week is an excellent way to keep up with the new tunes presented weekly on 91.1 the Globe, the best college radio station in Indiana.
If you have listened to the Globe for more than a half hour in the past couple of months, there’s a very good chance you’ve heard a track by Lotus.
They are coming to the Goshen Theater on Feb. 7 and the Globe is sponsoring their show, “An Evening with Lotus,” so they’ve been on a pretty regular rotation over the air.
I’ll be honest. I had not heard of Lotus before I found out about the show we were sponsoring, but I’m very glad that I was introduced to them. They have won me over, and your Globe Track of the Week is one of the reasons for that.
White Light Fadeaway is from the band’s 2016 album, Eat the Light. The record is actually the ninth studio album for the band, and White Light Fadeaway is one of the few songs by the band that has vocals.
Lotus is a jam band, which means a lot of their music is improvised, and it also means that they are more comfortable in a live setting than in the studio.
I find White Light Fadeaway to have one of the catchiest riffs I’ve heard from a jam band. The guitar work riffs along with an excellent accompanying bass line drives the song. There are some synthesizers that enhance the mood the song evokes. That mood… Chill.
I look forward to seeing this band live on Feb. 7, and I hope they play some iteration of White Light Fadeaway, because it is my favorite track by the band.
